Project description

The educational project of the PhD Programme in Accounting, Management and Business Economics is structured as a three-year pathway that combines methodological training, disciplinary deepening, international experience, and research practice. During the first year, students attend courses organized into three main areas: core courses, methodological courses, and specialized courses.

The methodological area offers tools for designing qualitative and quantitative research, including the use of specialized software such as NVivo and STATA. Specialized courses address advanced topics in accounting, management, economics, and finance, enabling PhD candidates to build a solid and competitive profile, both theoretically and empirically.

The Department of Business Economics regularly organizes scientific events in which PhD candidates present their research and receive feedback from experts. The programme also includes a period of study and research abroad at partner universities or qualified research centers, aimed at strengthening language, methodological, and relational skills in international settings. PhD candidates receive support to participate in scientific conferences, publish their work in peer-reviewed journals, and build an international academic network.

Course objectives

The PhD Programme in Accounting, Management and Business Economics aims to train researchers capable of contributing in an original, critical, and rigorous way to the advancement of knowledge in the fields of economics and business. The programme develops an integrated set of theoretical, methodological, and applied skills to address complex issues in academic, institutional, and professional contexts, with attention to methodological pluralism.

PhD candidates learn to critically assess the scientific literature, formulate meaningful research questions, build robust theoretical models, and conduct rigorous empirical analyses using advanced quantitative and qualitative tools. The programme also promotes the ability to communicate research findings effectively through scientific publications, conference presentations, and dissemination activities, with awareness of the ethical and social implications of research.

Expected career and professional opportunities

The PhD Programme in Accounting, Management and Business Economics prepares candidates for a wide range of career opportunities, both within and beyond academia, at national and international levels. PhD graduates may pursue academic careers in Italian and foreign universities and roles in public and private research centers.

Beyond academia, the programme provides strong foundations for working in applied research organizations, think tanks, European and international institutions, governmental bodies, and public administrations. Graduates are also well prepared for roles in private companies, consulting firms, professional practices, regulatory authorities, and policy-making centers, contributing to innovation management, performance measurement, reporting, sustainability, and organizational governance.
